This page  describes trail conditions and trail access issues. This page will be updated by the hike leaders when new information on trail conditions and road access become available. The hike leader who posted the trail condition update will be responsible for updating it as new information is available.

Avery Creek Road, FS477 11/21/25 Jay Hinze
Good news! Avery Creek Road is fully open. The Twin Falls hike is once again 4 miles long. The Twin Falls – Clawhammer loop is once again 6 miles.

Headwaters Road, FS475B 11/21/25 Jay Hinze
More good news. Headwaters Road is fully open from Davidson River Road to US276. Slick Rock Falls is now accessabe as well as the Sunwall trail and Log Hollow Falls.

Turkeypen Swinging Bridge 11/21/25–-Jay Hinze
The first swinging bridge over the South Mills River on the South Mills River trail was damaged during Hurricane Helene. Hiking the South Mills River trail requires a wet stream crossing. This report will be updated when the bridge is rebuilt.

Blue Ridge Parkway 12/4/2025–Jay Hinze
The Blue Ridge Parkway is currently closed in our neck of the woods. The Parkway will always be closed for ice and snow. Check the BRP Closure website to get current road closures.

Davidson River Campground 11/21/2025–Jay Hinze
The Davidson River Campground will be closed from November 2025 – May 2026 for restroom renovation. The North Slope trail has been rerouted. Hikers are not supposed to hike through the campground to the trailhead.

English Chapel Bridge 12/5/2025–Jay Hinze
The bridge over the Davidson River at the English Chappel is being replaced. the old bridge has been removed making the Exercise trail over the river inaccessable.

Avery Creek – Twin Falls 11/21/2025–Jay Hinze
The single log bridge over Avery Creek near its trailhead on Avery Creek Road has been replaced with large rocks enabling a rock hop across the creek.

The original trail and bridge to Twin Falls have been decommissioned. The only acess to the fallsl is from the Buckhorn Gap trail near the horse tie-up.

Forest Service Road Closures 11/21/25–Jay Hinze
FS475 Davidson River Road: Closed at the Cove Creek parking lot for bridge replacement. Parking at the Cove Creek trailhead is limited. The Daniel Ridge trail is only accessable from the new trail off of the Cove Creek trail near the Campground
FS1206 Yellow Gap Road: Closed at FS476 (Wolf Ford Road)

Big Creek 9/16/25
Numerous blowdowns west of Reservoir, all can be worked around. Olin Redmon

9/16 DuPont Reasonover Creek
The upper end of the Reasonover Creek trail is closed from Conservation Road to the rock hop over Reasonover Creek.

9/27 Mountain Bridge Wilderness Trails (Ceasars Head, Jones Gap) open status. Gum Gap Road is open all the way to the Gum Gap Trail. 10/20/2025 Vince Castello

10/20 MST north of Craven Gap is said to have numerous downed trees. The trail south to the Folk Art Center is clear. Olin Redmon

11/21 Cove Creek parking and Daniel Ridge parking area not accessible due to bridge construction. There is some pull-off parking just before the Cove Creek parking area. Olin Redmon
