The forecast is not as nice as last week, with a 40% chance of rain by 11 am and 50% by noon and increasing after that. If this holds, we probably won’t want to be up in the higher mountains so I am changing the hike to a close-in hike: Twin Falls. With the rains today, they may be impressive. We should be able to complete the hike before noon and just under cloudy skies, so no need for a lunch. Also, with the warmer temperatures now here, we will be starting our summer schedule this week. Let’s meet at the Pisgah Ranger Station parking area at 8:15 with a departure by 8:30 AM. If the forecast gets worse overnight I’ll send out an update by 7:30 am tomorrow.

All,
As I mentioned to those of you that were on the hike this last week I am planning a 6 mi hike on the AT starting at Carver’s Gap at Roan Mtn on 17 June to try to see the blooming of the Catawba Rhododendrons. This would involve an overnight stay at a B&B in Spruce Pine (prices per room run from $135 to $185 /night). I would like to get an idea of who would be seriously interested as the number of rooms is very limited. Please click on this RSVP link to provide me an answer before this Saturday and I will get back to you soon for more information. Thank you – Vince
