7/8  Turkeypen – Pounding Mill
4 mi, 300’cl, R3, $3.00
Meet at Walmart Pisgah Forest near Goodwill Truck
From the Turkeypen trailhead we hike the South Mills River trail to “Pounding Mill Cove” on the river for lunch.  We return to our cars via the reverse route.
Note:  The swinging bridge over the South Mills River was destroyed by Helene and has not been rebuilt.  Therefore, we will enjoy a wet river crossing each way.  Hikers should wear old hiking shoes/wicking socks that you don’t mind getting wet or put on water shoes for the crossings.  The rocks on the river bottom are slippery. Trekking poles are mandatory for the crossings.
